Drinking & Shopping

you-know-whats-better-than-shopping-online-drinking-wine-while-shopping-online-9854a

Easter weekend Alex and I headed back to my hometown of Ansley Nebraska to spend time with my family. We did the usual small town things, watched some barrel racing, stood in the highway while calves were moved, had some beers. However there is one very secret activity I did while nobody was looking.

I shopped.

Drinking and shopping is a dangerous combination. There should be some kind of PSA for such an activity.

I sat unknowingly to my sister and husband, at a table secretly shopping. I’m sure they assumed I was engrossed in looking up miniature donkey’s on the internet, (a common occurrence with me…never seen a miniature donkey? GOOGLE IT! You will want one I swear.) when I was actually ordering this topfullsizeoutput_8

And this topshopping and drinking

Now in my defense I got a heck of a deal on them! I ordered them both from Poshmark and even negotiated the price of each top down by AT LEAST $5 all while drinking what I think was my 4th beer, or maybe 5th, or was it just my 3rd?  WHO KNOWS!

The worst part? I didn’t even realize what I had done until I checked my Poshmark account the next day and had a comment that said, “thanks so much for your order! I will be shipping it out tomorrow!” Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm wait, what did I order? I then maneuvered my way over to the “my purchases” tab and there was the evidence, (insert hand to face emoji) I shopped while drinking……again.

I came clean to Alex on the way home that day. His disapproving look is almost as intense as my mom’s, but at this point in our relationship he has come to expect these things from me. I think it’s a charming aspect to my personality….not so sure he sees it the same way!!

P.S. For those of you who don’t know what Poshmark is, it’s a wonderful place to sell slightly used clothing as well as find great deals on brands that are otherwise a bit pricey. Both of these tops are Free People and I got them both for under $40! Happy poshing!!

Wrinkles & Zits

img_4323Wrinkles…………….BOO!!!!!

Zits………………..DOUBLE BOO!!!

Wrinkles and zits…..WTF????

There needs to be some kind of warning, or manual about what happens to your skin when you turn 12 years old. First comes the pimples, then more pimples, then HUGE VOLCANOS THAT LIVE ON YOUR FACE AND NEVER LEAVE!!

Next up, wrinkles. If you were like me when I was in my early 20’s you became a goddess of the sun. Why? OBVIOUSLY because being tan was just SO INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT (if I knew then what I know now….).

Then all of the sudden BAM you have lines around your eyes and lips…..and forehead…..oh and your neck too. Wrinkles don’t come alone either, they bring their friends sun damage and dark spots to the party! PERFECT! (not really though…..)

Now here I am in my mid 30’s and having to deal with not just pimples, but wrinkles too. Why on god’s green earth should I, or anyone for that matter, have to deal with both AT THE SAME TIME!! It’s frustrating, I put on wrinkle cream followed by zit cream.  It just doesn’t seem right.  I am old enough to gamble, vote, pay taxes, DRINK!! Shouldn’t I at least be over the whole breakout thing?!

I need to just CALM DOWN, and get off my soap box long enough to share with you  my four favorite skincare products. The first three are a bit on the pricey side, but 100% worth it!

Luna

Most recently I started using Luna Sleeping Night Oil. I am obsessed with this stuff. The morning after the first night I used it I saw a difference in my skins appearance. It works on all skin types, and a little bit goes a very long way. I have been religiously using it for about 2 months now and I can’t see myself stopping…..ever.

Truth serum

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum is new to my skincare routine as well. I was a devout Perfectionist by Estee Lauder user, but I stumbled upon this serum and sadly my Perfectionist has been replaced. This stuff is so good. Like the Luna Sleeping Oil I saw results with this product right away. In a nutshell this serum is a big ole dose of vitamins for your skin. It contains collagen as well to help plump out those wrinkles taking residence upon your face. It smells AMAZING too! (Just like oranges if you are wondering)

Estee Lauder

Estee Lauder Resilience Lift Night is by far the best night cream I have ever used. I have tried many different lotions and potions, but this moisturizer is one I will never stop using. It truly does what it says, lifts and firms and leaves your skin feeling super soft without that gross greasy feeling some creams can leave behind. If you are looking to try a night cream for the first time I highly recommend this one!

clean & clear

Last, but most certainly not least, Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment. What can I say, I have used this stuff since that first pimple welcomed itself upon my face at age 12! It is so good at getting rid of those pesky pimples in a short amount of time. It’s comparable to Clinique’s Acne Spot Healing gel, only half the price! SCORE!

There you have it folks, because of these four products I have the skin of an angel!!!!!!

Ok that’s going a little far, but I am able to keep the wrinkles and pimples at bay…..most of the time.

Moms & Distressed Denim

img_4095

At 35 years old I still choose my outfits with my mom in mind. Now don’t get it twisted, my mom is a hip, hip lady who is always put together and looking stylish as possible. I credit my ability to shop and accessorize ANY outfit to her! But one trend I’m sure Kathy will never understand is distressed denim. I mean, let’s be honest, what mom can? I can see future me yelling at my 18 year old for spending “HOW MUCH!?”  On a pair of perfectly destroyed jeans….but that’s a good 100 years down the road, so I won’t worry about that right now.

Sunday I went to watch my niece Kenna play volleyball (GO 4-COUNTY INDIANS!), and that morning I had a very crucial decision to make…which pair of worn-out on purpose jeans would my mom approve of more?

  1. The pair with giant holes in both knees?
  2. The pair with holes placed every so innocently below each front pocket?
  3. Or the pair with the holes patched up?

Number 3 was the winner!!! I figured since no skin was actually going to show they were the most appropriate pair to go with. I balanced out said jeans with a t-shirt and Chuck Taylors and out the door I went dressed to impress! Or so I thought……..

When I arrived at the tournament I was greeted with a giant hug from my younger niece Halle, and proceeded to make my way to where my parents were sitting. We exchanged hellos, I took a seat on the fieldhouse floor of UNK, (University of Nebraska Kearney for those not familiar) and settled in to watch some volleyball. Pretty soon my mom leans over, “so did you do this patchwork yourself?” as she points to my jeans. HA! My mom is giving me WAY TO MUCH CREDIT! (Side note: I am currently teaching myself how to sew, post about what a disaster that has been coming soon.) Even at 35 I still feel sheepish when my mom comments on my clothing choice, like I’m about to get grounded or she is going to tell me I can’t go to my friends sleepover.

I said to my mom without making eye contact, “no I bought them like this.”  She just looked at me the way moms do and smiled…then offered to buy me a new pair of jeans if I needed them. Of course, she was kidding! At least I think she was……

Moral of this story? Don’t ever assume your mom is going to be down with you outfit choices, even at 35 years old.

Am I still going to wear my distressed denim? HECK YES I AM! I’m a follower of trends and as ridiculous as I may look in my perfectly ruined jeans, I’m still going to wear the shit out of them! Oh, and believe you me, before my time on earth is up, I will get Kathy in a pair of effortlessly destroyed jeans. Getting her to buy them, well that’s another thing. Hmmm……maybe I just stumbled upon a possible Christmas gift?
