At least that is what I am telling myself right now. Winter came with a vengeance since I have been living in Lincoln. It has not been fun and I currently have a love hate relationship with Mother Nature.
Enter Jord Watches.
I’m sure at this point you all are wondering what this watch has to do with my loathing of Mother Nature. This watch is cool and makes my winter woes fade away.
To be honest I have never been a big accessories girl. A basic hoop earring and simple necklace is about as fancy as I get. When the “boyfriend watch” trend came full circle I was I was hooked. Then, when Jord watches reached out and asked if I wanted to collaborate with them….it was a solid YEP!
What makes this watch so unique is that it is made out of wood.
This ladies watch is so incredibly lightweight. My watch is from the Frankie series and is called Purpleheart & Plum. I love the larger face and the “boyfriend” style to it.
So now that I have my first wood watch, I want about 20 more.
After all of this you want a Jord watch of your very own right?! You are in luck! I will be having a giveaway and one lucky reader will win a $100 gift card to Jord watches! Click here to enter!
It has been A HOT MINUTE. I am so sorry for keeping everyone in the dark. I’m sure you all have been DYING to know what I have been up to! (By “you all” I basically just mean my mom and sister….) For the last week I have been in Lincoln (NE) dog sitting and house sitting for my friends while they are on the sunny beaches of Mexico. I’m not jealous at all. I mean, why would I give up these blustery slightly above ZERO temps for 80 degrees and Margaritias?!! I’d say I am #WINNING in this situation.
(I hope the sarcasm was sensed in that last part)
I have so many life things to fill you all in on. But for now, I must put that aside. In due time, I will give all you the deats on our move and my super exciting job I will start in February. For now you must be patient my little grasshoppers…
Moving on to more important things like……….THE GOLDEN GLOBES! I know I am over a week removed from recapping them, but like I said I have been a little busy dealing with grown up things. I apologize for keeping you all waiting (again…you all = mom and sister).
so many amazing moments from that evening! From the stand of solidarity in all black ensembles to Oprah’s life changing speech. In case you missed it, click here. I don’t want to spoil to much of it for those who didn’t get to watch, what I will share is my favorite quote from her fantastic speech,
“What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have. And I’m especially proud, and inspired by all the women who have felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak and share their personal stories.”
KUDOS QUEEN OPRAH! There has been talk of a political run…Oprah 2020?? #shehasmyvote!
I could go on and on….AND ON with all my favorite moments from that evening. But that could take a while. So I will leave you with my own Golden Globe look.
I may or may not have worn this while I watched the Globes…..by myself. (Judgement NOT ALLOWED, ok you can judge a little…#sorrynotsorry)
Keep an eye out for more new posts about Vanderpump Rules, how much I hate packing, how much I drink while packing, and to find out whether Alex and I will be speaking at the end of our move to Lincoln!
Today is a very special Thursday, a takeover of Sensible Chaos by my very best friend Sara! You might recognize her from a recent trip to Minneapolis. Or as my Omaha Fashion Week partner in crime. She is going to share with you all some of her favorite looks for this holiday season.
Sara’s Favorite Holiday Looks
Hello Sensible Chaos fam! I’m so honored Julia asked me to be a guest writer on her blog! Julia is my go-to gal when facing many of life’s toughest decisions. She’s always there to provide her wise and honest advice when I ask which one of my 37 shades of red lipstick best matches my outfit? Do these jeans make my butt look too big? Do I want a wine buzz or a champagne buzz? I mean, these are critical decisions in a girl’s life and I’m lucky I have her to lean on!
Julia asked if I would share a post for the upcoming 2017 Holiday season and because I can’t turn down an excuse to online shop, I jumped at the chance. (Side note, my husband thinks I was “just browsing” while writing this post and not actually shopping. Let’s hope he doesn’t read this or check the mail before me…) Maybe it’s just me, but I like to think any holiday party is an excuse to get dressed up and wear something a bit out of your comfort zone. I’m talking sequins! And ruffles! And velvet! (You didn’t think I’d be posting on Sensible Chaos without referencing velvet did you?!)
To those who have been eyeing the velvet look but haven’t pulled the trigger, might I suggest this little number. This golden yellow color is so beautiful. The high low round hem with a wrap bodice has this dress from Lulu’s looking sexy, yet also chic. You’ll want to snatch this one up fast as it’s just been added back in stock.
To any of my longer legged ladies reading this, (hands up if you’re 5’9” or taller) if you haven’t check out TopShop do it! Some of their stuff is a bit more edgy but they offer a Tall section, which is clutch if you’ve been wanting to check out one of those famous velvet slip dresses but can’t find one long enough. I love this wine color and anytime I can find a dress that covers my bum but is still above the knees, I call it a win!
If you’re looking for a holiday party dress that doesn’t show a lot of skin (it IS winter in Nebraska after all so it’s likely cold AF out) I love this find from Akira. I’m a big fan of midi dresses (heyyy longer hem lengths!) The tiered tulip sleeves are a super fun detail while still versatile with slits, so you can hit up that dip tray or refill that cocktail (I like to do both) as much as you want!
I’m so obsessed with this last dress, I feel like I need to buy it even though I have nowhere to wear it. If anyone has a formal holiday party they’re attending or hosting and are okay with crashers, let me know! This Gigi Off Shoulder Ruffle Front Gown from Akira is to die for! I’m telling myself it’s named after Gigi Hadid because she’s flawless and so is this gown. It comes in classic black and a gorgeous red color with dramatic ruffles, an off the shoulder cut, cuffed sleeves (once again, the dip tray and I would be just fine) and a great high low hem.
And there you have it! A few of the looks that I’m feeling are right up my Holiday Party alley for 2017!
You can only imagine my excitement when Tobi reached out to me and asked if I would like to work with them on a collaboration. I have been shopping Tobi for a few years now and I have never found something I didn’t immediately fall in love with.
What makes this collab even better? THEY SENT ME A VELVET MINI DRESS! I guess you could say Tobi knows the way to my heart.
These 3 dresses are perfect for any occasion. From formal to casual Tobi has you covered.
Plaid. I love plaid. I love plaid because I grew up in the 90s and Claire Danes has on some sort of plaid in every episode of My-So-Called-Life. This shift dress is perfect for any occasion. The fabric is so soft, lightweight and can easily be dressed up or left casual. Add a choker, chunky boots and leather jacket from H&M and you have yourself the perfect 90s ensemble.
The last dress in this series is the perfect addition to any wardrobe. It’s basic in the best possible way. Like the plaid dress you can easily dress this up for a formal event, or wear it to brunch with your squad on Sunday. I chose to take it casual with floral print Doc Martens and simple gold accessories from H&M.
I can not say enough wonderful things about Tobi. If you are on the hunt for that perfect outfit this holiday season, head over to Tobi. I have always said I would never lead my readers astray when it comes to shopping and I don’t intend to start now!
Ok, perhaps I am the only one who feels this way. But let’s just take a moment and talk about how much velvet we are seeing this fall/winter season. If you ask either one of my nieces, velvet isn’t cool. I should probably listen to them. They are literally the coolest of the cool. They know more about how to live your best life than I do. Did I just stumble upon a new idea for a post? “Life According to Kenna and Halle,” coming soon!
Back to the velvet. You could say my obsession started back in ’99 at my junior prom. You guessed it, my dress was velvet. Not the ENTIRE dress but just the top part. I loved that dress. I still have that dress. If only it still fit….
I found all of these pieces over the last couple of months. By far my favorite is this midi skirt from Alice and Wonder. If you haven’t checked them out you need to! Follow them on Instagram too. They work a lot with two of my favorite bloggers, Taylor from The Daily Tay, and Ali from Those White Walls. Last week they did a holiday photoshoot with both ladies and had a bunch of sneak peeks of what’s coming to their store for the holidays. Everything I saw, I WILL NEED!! I am planning a trip to Chicago for the sole purpose of going to Alice and Wonder, and I have no shame about it!
This jumpsuit is from the best place on earth, Target. It’s a magical land filled with magical things. I dare you to go there and only buy toothpaste.
This dress is from Express. You might remember it from my “Favorite Fall Items,” post I did last month. I have found a ton of super great things from Express lately. It’s funny, back in the day when I went there to shop it was for “going out shirts,” now it’s for “holiday parties I will only stay at until 9:00 P.M.” Oh how life changes.
I encourage you to try out this new velvet trend. When it comes to shopping and fashion I promise to never lead you astray!
If you keep up with me on Instagram, you probably know that as of late I have had an obsession with all things 90s. As far as clothing goes anyway. I feel like I need to write a guide to living your BEST 90s life. I would give anything to go back to the days of oversized flannel shirts, My-So-Called-Life because hello….Jared Leto IS A FOX, and Doc Martens. Perhaps I stumbled upon a book idea? Stay tuned!
Finding this flannel maxi skirt is probably the best thing that has happened to me in a while. Keep in mind I live in a small town, where nothing exciting ever happens, and the talk of the town is who Pearl’s date was to Bingo last week. Its riveting stuff I tell ya……..that Pearl, she sure does get around!
Back to the skirt, I found this dream at Buckle, formerly The Buckle, formerly The Brass Buckle. If you are from Nebraska you will get it. I’m really not one to shop at (the) Buckle, I just feel old when I walk in that store…and the layering. I mean, do they really think you need to wear that many items to make up an outfit?! I guess so. If you like to do this, more power to you! I just prefer to wear one shirt at a time. #thatsjustmethough #doyou
OK BACK TO THE SKIRT! As I was saying, when I do shop there, I am never disappointed. Their Gimmicks line is my favorite, very boho and laided back, this skirt is from that very line and sings to my 90s soul. I paired it with a crop top from Nasty Gal, and of course my favorite chunky platform boots from H&M.
The 90s. Such a great time for fashion, teen melodramas, and Tiger Beat Magazine! I would go back in a heartbeat. Maybe not to live through my teen years again (I was super awkward, hard to believe I know…..#not), but to spend countless hours with my nose in the latest issue of Sassy while listening to EnVouge, and daydreaming about what it would be like to go on a date with Jared Leto. At 15 years old, I had my priorities straight….duh.
So yesterday after I posted my shirt post……….wow..no judgment on the grammar please.
Anyway, I headed over to Express’s website and they are having a sale, 40% OFF EVERYTHING! Every, single, damn, thing is on sale. I took a moment to do a little happy dance, yes because of the sale OBVIOUSLY, but also because Alex will be out of town for work and I will be able to sneak whatever I buy into my closet and when he asks if it’s new I will respond, with a casual, “this old thing??? I have had it FOR AGES!” Trust me, dudes are never the wiser to what is new and what is not. (Here is to hoping today isn’t the day Alex decides to read my blog) Ladies, if any of you claim to not do this yourselves…I call BS.
Who wants to see a few things I ordered?????? Here ya go!
Ok, perhaps I went a bit overboard…I mean who can say no to a blush velvet jumpsuit?? NOT THIS GIRL!!
After I was done shopping for myself, I found a few pieces I think are perfect for this fall season!
So do yourself a favor, head over to Express, shut off that little voice in your head that says, “you don’t need those thigh high boots,” and then go buy those thigh high boots!
I have been trying to come up with something witty to say about this top for a week now, and I must be honest, this has been the hardest top to really talk about.
Now, if I asked my dad what he thought of this top, I am confident his response would be, “where is the rest of it?!” Oh Dale!! Never one to not have a clever comeback.
But honestly that is what I thought when I first saw this shirt on Nordstrom’s website. I’m not usually one to gravitate toward the one-shoulder look but there was just something about this particular piece that was screaming BUY ME! Who am I to not listen to that little shopping voice? So without hesitation I bought it. I like to live on the edge when it comes to shopping, buyer’s remorse…….WHAT’S THAT?!
About a week later the shirt arrived, and I immediately tried it on and, it didn’t look to bad. Wasn’t to sure how I would style it, but alas I hung it up and began brainstorming looks.
Here is what I came up with. I like this look but as soon as I saw the photos I felt like what this top needed to be paired with is wide leg, high-waisted, black trousers. So once again I went on the hunt and found a pair from Express…stay tuned for the follow-up to that purchase!
Unlike most bloggers, fall is just another season I have to “survive.”
Sure I love a good Pumpkin Spice Latte on a brisk fall morning. Of course there is nothing better than the smell of chili in a crockpot as I prepare to not watch a stitch of football with my husband on a Saturday afternoon. Oh and the candles! Don’t even get me started on the amount of fall candles that I may or may not have purchased…back in July….
Why do I have to survive fall you ask? Because of all the sweaters, hats, boots, and scarves I will tell myself I don’t need but end up buying anyway. It’s a never ending battle with me. Even writing this post, I had to pause twice because I got sidetracked by online sales. #bloggingpriorities
So while all of my favorite bloggers embrace this fall season…I am still on the fence. However I will be hanging out on said fence with my apple pie scented candles, pumpkin beer, and cardigan.
Although I am worried about my spending habits walking into this season, I might as well look good doing it right?! I snagged this olive green button down dress from my favorite boutique in Kansas City Frankie and Jules. The boots are Free People and I have had them for years. By far my favorite pair. They are no longer available, but here is a pair that I am dying to purchase….see it’s truly a problem. But the best KIND of problem if you ask me!
Being a blogger on a budget can be hard. I mean…..Free People isn’t exactly knocking down my door and sending me free stuff quite yet, so until then every piece of clothing you see on Sensible Chaos is purchased by yours truly. I can get into some real trouble with this because I justify buying anything by saying, “this would be perfect for my blog!” Alex isn’t a fan of this shopping justification, and I’m not a fan of his disapproving look every time the doorbell rings and it’s Dave the UPS guy.
So from this, a new segment of Sensible Chaos is born! Welcome to, “Blogging On A Budget,” where I take items from one of my three closets (yes three, like I said, it’s a problem) and create fun, trendy, outfits without spending…too much. Of course, you will see a few new pieces here and there, but for the most part each item will come straight from my closet. I will also be linking similar items so that you can still shop the look even if it’s not available.
Let’s dive into the first outfit straight from my closet…ssss…closets!! I mean closets..
I snagged these overalls from one of my favorite boutiques, Frankie & Jules in Kansas City. I am a sucker for a good pair of overalls. I have been rockin’ them since ’87 so naturally they would be a part of the fist ensemble featured. I have linked a similar pair of overalls from H&M. Same goes for the booties, they were a sale find from my favorite local shop Mint 217 last year. I found similar boots from Kohl’s and the bodysuit is still available at the Buckle.
So there you have it! The first of many looks that will come out of my closet! Strap in…..this may last awhile..
