The Things I Will Never Unsee From Kansas City Rockfest

img_5438Oh lordy was my age tested this weekend. I never like to consider myself a sissy, but let me just tell you that I think my music festival days are numbered. Don’t get me wrong I had a blast  last weekend at Rockfest in Kansas City, but I most definitely saw things that I will NEVER be able to unsee…….

I am big believer in, “you do you.” If it makes you feel confident then do it!!!! Peace, Love, and Rock man! However, I don’t think as a self-respecting woman you would find me “confidentially” walking around topless. Boobs. Were. EVERYWHERE. Ladies, I have them too, I know what they look like, I don’t really need to see yours….thanks.

Moving on…..bros. Seriously, I get it, you like to mosh. For some reason you feel better about life by running into innocent strangers just simply trying to enjoy their favorite band. Again, do you, but it’s getting a little old. Oh and if you are going to mosh, then have your annoyed girlfriends wait for you outside of said mosh pit. All they do is get in the way of people like me who are just wanting to see Lzzy Hale of Halstorm shred some mad guitar mmmmmkkkkk.  I would take Mr. Moshpit over Annoyed Amy any day. All she does is whine that her boyfriend is ignoring her and she needs another STRAW-BER-RITA DAMN IT!! Girl if you are going to be a pissy pants, then stay home…

But with the bad came the AWESOME! I managed to elbow my way close enough to get a decent picture of Lzzy, I was front and center for Collective Soul, I rocked my face off from a safe distance to Godsmack, and I got to see Sammy Hager sing the Crystal Pepsi song! The company I was with wasn’t to shabby either 🙂 The only thing I would do different next year is fork over the extra $$$$ for VIP, us almost 40 year olds have NO time for all that pushing and boob nonsense!!!!

PEACE, LOVE & ROCK MY FRIENDS!!!!!

Unsolicited Advice From a Former Bride

I will celebrate my 5 year wedding anniversary in July this year. It feels like 30……

Does anyone else say that? Maybe, and of course when I say it everyone laughs a forced laugh and I reply with a, “oh I’m just kidding.” But truthfully speaking, some days it does. I am sure I can speak for Alex on this as well. Be it 5 years or 30 there is nobody I would rather annoy for the rest of my life than him!

Considering we are getting into the thick of wedding season I thought I would take a trip down memory lane and talk about some of the things I wish someone had told me on my big day. However, in thinking back there truly wasn’t anything I wasn’t prepared for. I had this wedding shit covered! I had been planning since I was 5 years old and each one of my Barbies got to marry my one Ken doll, he sure did get around! Seriously when it’s the game of Barbies who wants to waste their hard earned mowing money on Ken doll’s? NOT THIS GIRL!!

It may be hard to believe but I really was cool as a cucumber when planning my wedding. I knew what I wanted, and for the most part I was able to make it happen without a hitch!

There is one thing I can advise all you brides on.  You will hear this about a million times in preparing for your wedding, and you will get sick of it, but it. is. so. true. Your wedding day is going to fly by. So at some point make sure you stop, take a moment, and breath it all in.  Because in an instant it’s over and you are just a sad ex-bride sitting on your couch the next day refusing to take your veil off. What………….I’m not saying this was me………ok it was. Alex wouldn’t let me wear it on our honeymoon either.  Fun hater……see why it feels like 30 years now instead of 5?!

So there is my unsolicited advice for brides. Just enjoy it, with a glass of wine in your hand and a wonderful man by your side!

**One other very important piece of advice that I was given on my wedding day was, “the one in white is ALWAYS right.” Great isn’t it?! So great that I put it on a shirt! You can wear this while you sip a mimosa and NOT be a bridezilla!  YOU’RE WELCOME BRIDES!!!!!!!!!!!!

When Thursdays Are Fridays

today-is-my-friday-sorry-im-not-sorry-176f4

So remember when I said it was hard to, “get in the swing of things,” after a three day weekend?

Well when Thursday is your Friday it is no easier.

That is my situation today. Today is in fact my Friday and I’m definitely not mad about. But this does mean that today will be the longest day EVER.

Ok maybe I’m being dramatic, but anyone who says that their, “Thursday that is a Friday,” isn’t a long ass day is a liar pants.  Sure I have plenty to get done at work today, and that should make the day go by fast, but it never seems to work out that way. This weekend the husband and I are headed to Kansas City to attend Rockfest.   Yes I am attending yet another Rockfest but this time around it has been smooth sailing with the tickets. I didn’t have to battle Ticketmaster, and I also won’t be faced with a sketchy hotel. This is in large part because my friend Beth took care of the details and her luck is WAY better than mine.

So you can imagine my excitement to hit the road tonight and start yet another fun filled 3-day weekend. But for now I better head into work and get this day over with! Happy Friday for me!! It’s still just Thursday for you…….. 🙂

Back To The Grind

Trying to get “back in the swing of things,” after a long weekend is…..hard.

Very, very, hard.

Especially when I am coming up on yet ANOTHER 3 day weekend as Alex and I travel to Kansas City to see friends this weekend. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining about this, in fact I couldn’t be more excited! We are going to rockfest and I’m SURE it’s going to be a good time. 🙂

When I left work on Friday I didn’t quite think about all the work I would be coming back to, I was in 3 day weekend mode and ready to eat, drink, and repeat! I did all that and then some. So much in fact Alex and I ended up staying in Lincoln an extra night after spending the majority of it in Omaha. We couldn’t bare the thought of the fun ending! We crashed some parties and of course, drank, and ate some more and then fell into our oversized king bed at the good ole Hampton Inn!

We thought our ride home yesterday would be a leisurely one too. Haha, ohh how life had a different idea for this girl! If anyone knows me, they know I always leave something behind when I visit friends or family.  However in this situation it was the charger to my computer, and I didn’t realize I had forgotten it until I was a good hour from our friends apartment. This definitely wasn’t a situation where I could go without it for a few days either. I HAD AN ETSY SHOP TO OPEN PEOPLE!!! (If you haven’t visited it yet do it, you won’t be disappointed!)

So to make a very long story short, after two trips to Target and a trip to Best Buy I had a charger and we were on our way home. I can’t even MAKE this stuff up people! Remember my post about luck? Seriously, I have ZERO of it.

The good news? We had a great weekend, we saw tons of friends, and my Etsy shop is open and ready for business, wait, did I mention that already?! 🙂

As for the other sayings, here are some fun facts about each one!

The one in white is always right.” — This came to me at my wedding reception. I was getting questions left and right from the DJ to the photographer and I just had NO IDEA what to do.  I was just there for the wine and the man, you want to play the Macarena Mr. DJ?  GO AHEAD! Then someone stopped me and said, “the one in white is always right.” I took a long bridal minute to myself and thought…………….DAMN STRAIGHT! Fast Forward 4 years and 4 months later and now it’s on a tank top!! So brides if you are reading this, you need this shirt. It is subtle, without being all bridezilla like!

img_5193

It may not be right….but it’s damn sure correct.” –This is courtesy of my ever wise father. Always one for the good one-liners this was one of his best! A perfect shirt when you perhaps are told you are wrong….frequently. Not that my Dad was told he was wrong, he rarely was……or is? 🙂 img_5186

I have all sorts of feelings about this new venture of mine. I’m nervous, excited, ready to toss my cookies…anything you can imagine I am feeling! So please, do me a solid and let everyone know about Sensible Chaos Shirts! My Etsy shop will go live on Monday and I am having a giveaway on Instagram that will start tomorrow! Don’t follow me on Instagram, well then click here and give me a follow! I will also have a link to my Etsy shop as soon as it is up and running…….did I mention that is happening on Monday?? So make sure to tell your friends, and your friends friends, then their friends friends…you get it!

Thanks and HAPPY HUMP DAY!

My Met Gala Moment

Yes the Met Gala was weeks ago.

However…..THIS HAPPENED.

F&CPhoto credit: TheDailyMail

I mean…………………..no. words. Speechless, which rarely happens for me. The 90s teen in me was screaming giddy screams when I saw them grace the Met Gala’s blue and cream carpet! Every other celebrity was NOTHING compared to these two gems.

Ok, ok, Courtney Love has always been kind of a train wreck. But what a FABULOUS train wreck she was to watch! I mean her style, those slip dresses she wore when playing with her band Hole. Crashing Madonna’s interview on the VMAs and then falling as she leaves only to show her lady parts! How does one NOT know about these events! (Ok, to be fair a lot of people may not know this happened, but I do, and it was a sight to…er….see) Hole’s song Celebrity Skin was on repeat in my Discman as a young and impressionable teen. Oh to be able to smear my red lipstick JUST LIKE HER! Both ladies wore Marc Jacobs to the Met Gala. Marc claims that Francis Bean is his current muse. Geeeeez what a drag for her, I bet she HATES IT!

Going off of my love for the Cobain’s and the 90s, and Doc Martens. I decided to have my very own Met Gala moment. I found the dress on sale at H&M, snagged it for $13, I mean you NEVER know when you are going to need a floor length silver evening gown. This dress is still available in select sizes. The Doc’s I found on Amazon!

Unfortunately McCook didn’t roll out a blue and cream carpet for my Sunday photoshoot, so cement and dirt roads were going to have to do!

A Winery & A Girl Crush

img_4949

Sometimes I decide to be all fancy and do adult things like go to a winery.

Of course once I get there I usually trip over my own shoe, spill half my wine on my shirt, and end up crying at some point (a wine induced cry at that). But at least I TRIED to be classy!

This was the case a few weekends ago, ok minus the crying, however I did spill, and I did trip. But I also wore an awesome shirt created by one of my favorite bloggers The Daily Tay.

I have a blogger girl crush on her.

For reals.

I look forward every single day to reading her blog. If you haven’t checked her out, DO IT! She is hilarious, has the best dog, and makes crazy great t-shirts! Ever heard of  the Husker shirt, “Talk Herbie To Me?” That’s her! For my best friends wedding we got her the, “Married AF” shirt.  I have three shirts courtesy of The Daily Tay, obviously the one pictured below, as well as a GBR t-shirt (Go Big Red for those who do not live in the state of Nebraska…or live under a rock), as well as the “Lets Day Drink” t-shirt.

Because the, “USA Champagne Spraying Team” shirt is sooooooo cool I needed an equally cool place to wear it, and take photos! Enter James Arthur Vineyard outside of Lincoln NE. This also gave me an excuse to get all my favorite ladies in Lincoln together to do some day drinking.

I am totally going to tag The Daily Tay when I post this. Hopefully she doesn’t think I’m some pathetic blog stalker or anything…I swear I’m not….really!

But if she EVEN mentions this little ole blog of mine I am going to fan girl the F out!! I imagine it will be similar to when I saw New Kids On The Block for the first time……..it was a life changing experience. #NKOTB4LYFE

Rockfest

WE GOT IN!

I’m sure everyone has been on the edge of their seats WAITING to find out if we had any problems getting into Rockfest on Friday and I am happy to report everything went smoothly. Of course, there was no Channing Tatum waiting with my tickets, nor did Taylor Momsen invite me to join her band. But what I can report is that myself and my two girlfriends did NOT get stuck at will call in our killer outfits.

What is a trip without a bit of an adventure right? It goes like this….

I took the liberty of booking our hotel room. Obviously I knew that we didn’t need a 5 star hotel, we would basically only need a place to sleep and I wasn’t looking to spend a lot of $$$ for that reason. Rockfest works with different hotels close to the venue to give good rates to those concert goers who plan to say the night, it is called something like concert connect? I don’t know. What I am getting at is I found this hotel:

AmericInnexterior-at-americinn-hotel-and-suites-madison-south-monona

Seemed legit. Looked nice, good rate, close to the venue, BOOKED!

The hotel we ended up at:

American Inn

American Inn

You can imagine my confusion.

My first red flag should have been the fact they had a “weekly rate” of $195.

So myself and my reluctant yet understanding friends get out of the car. I can tell they are questioning what kind of place I had us staying at. Hell I was questioning it myself! I mean I saw pictures on the internet, but my mom always tells me I can’t believe everything I SEE on the internet! But still, this was some terrible false advertising on the Hotel’s part if you ask me.

We make our way to the small shack that is, “check in” (it is literally a small shack in the middle of the parking lot) and we are greeted by a nice man standing behind plexy glass, something you might see if you were to go visit someone in prison! I give the nice man my name and he looks for our reservation, he can’t find it, I am perplexed, I mean, this is the AMERICAN Inn. The last thing I needed after the ticket fiasco was to not have a place to sleep! After some thinking and a quick look out the window at the hotel’s sign, it is discovered we are at the wrong hotel! THANK GOD! I mean, I’m no sissy but this place was SCARY, like something straight out of a Wes Craven movie. We high tailed it out of the shack and down the road to our actual hotel the AMERICINN! Pronounced the same, but definitely not the same.

After all of that, we made it to the venue and proceeded to rock our faces off! It was a beautiful day filled with AMAZING MUSIC! The Pretty Reckless was on point, Papa Roach was INTENSE, and Soundgarden took me straight back to the 90’s. Oh and………we drank beer, LOTS OF BEER, my liver is pretty pissed of at me right now, along with the rest off my body. But I give zero F’S, it was all totally worth it!!
